A Day’s Weight is an interactive table that explores the relationship between our connection to common produce found in the supermarket, and the labor that put it there.
Supermarket chains and corporations are concerned with their “last mile” of transport to the marketplace, while this project addresses the “first few feet” of a fruit or vegetables journey: from the vine, ground, or tree, to the farmworker’s picking basket.
Each piece of produce at the table is counterweighted to correspond to the load of a single full basket that the field worker must harvest in order to generate a day’s pay.
